Teardown Of Nvidia’s GTX 1080 Hits The Internet

Now that Nvidia’s GTX 1080 have been announced, many are probably now eagerly waiting in anticipation for the graphics card to arrive here in Malaysia. To further fan the “flames of anticipation” for the GTX 1080, folks over at VideoCardz have managed to get their hands on a number of pictures showcasing the internals of the beastly GTX 1080 Founders Edition graphics card.

In contrast, when compared with the PCB of Nvidia’s older GTX 980 graphics card, the GTX 1080 retains most of the component and memory chip placements. At the heart of the graphics card lies Nvidia’s newest 16nm Pascal GP104-400 GPU, which seems to be missing in all of the pictures; the size difference between the GP104-400 GPU and the Maxwell GM204-400 GPU on the GTX 980 is indeed rather significant.

Looking closer, one can clearly see that the Nvidia’s GTX 1080 PCB is equipped with six power phases, which is one more compared to the GTX 980. The graphics card drains power from a single 8-pin PCIe power connector. According to VideoCardz, Nvidia has also left room for AIBs to equip their GTX 1080 variants with more power connectors.

Covering the entire GTX 1080 PCB is Nvidia’s newly designed cooler shroud, which looks absolutely gorgeous in our opinion. In addition, the graphics card is further secured with metal back plate, which has matte black finish along with an engraved Nvidia logo.Image: VideoCardz

Aside from internal component images, consumers will have to wait for the GTX 1080 to be released to know what it can really do. But, judging by Nvidia’s demo during its event, the performance of the GTX 1080 coupled with it’s suggested retail price seems rather promising.
