Google Translate on Android has learnt a new trick for helping people communicate. The app now features additional integration with Android’s clipboard; allowing it to work in conjunction with just about any other app.
While using Google Translate on mobile devices isn’t new, the process used to be time consuming to say the least. The streamlined operations now creates a Google Translate bubble on the edge of the display whenever text is copied; which allows users to open a Translate dialogue box for quick translations. Google is calling this feature Tap to Translate; and it currently works with all 103 languages available on Google Translate.
A couple of other changes are also being introduced with the latest update to the Google Translate app. iPhone users will be glad to know that Offline Mode has been introduced to the platform. Google has also adjusted the size of the download required for Offline Mode to work; and reduced the file down to just 25MB (90-percent less than what it used to be).
Finally, Chinese is being added to Google Translate’s Word Lens. This allows users to point their camera at Chinese text and have it translated into English; it works in reverse as well. Chinese for Word Lens is capable of recognising both Simplified and Traditional Chinese characters, and also works offline.
