Scarlett Johansson will be play as Major Kusanagi in ‘Ghost in the Shell’ ?

MAJOR KUSANAGI, IS THAT REALLY YOU? 

Paramount has released a first look of Scarlett Johansson as Major Motoko Kusanagi for the live-action adaptation of the popular '90s Japanese animated movie "Ghost in the Shell." as actress Johansson was confirmed as the lead in January 2015.

Actress Johansson, who played the title role in another sci-fi film - "Lucy" in 2014 - is to head the cast of Dreamworks' film, citing its sources, Variety said Johansson, who was initially undecided about taking on the role, has agreed to star in the movie.

"Ghost in the Shell" tells the story of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in technology-related crime. Renowned director Steven Spielberg, DreamWorks' principal, is a fan of the original and has long wanted to get this project going.

Additional reports by Hollywood Reporter reveal that Johansson's "Lucy" co-star Pilou Asbaek will play Batou, while Michael Pitt will pay the main villain Kuze/Laughing Man.

Takeshi Kitano (also known as Beat Takeshi) will also be joining the cast as Daisuke Aramaki. Kaori Mamoi and Juliette Binoche complete the lineup, along with Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara, and Tuwanda Manyimo as Section 9 task force members.

Rupert Sanders has previously been named as the director. The movie, the reports states, will be shot in New Zealand.
