AMD Unveils Polaris GPU Architecture Microsite

AMD has created a website dedicated to its upcoming next generation Polaris GPUs. Visitors are able to register their interest and be notified about the release dates for the graphics cards. However, when one looks closely, there is something rather interesting about AMD’s Polaris microsite: a picture of an entire Polaris GPU.

It must be said that the pictured GPU die on AMD’s microsite wasn’t labelled, so it could be either the Polaris 11 or Polaris 10. As always, folks over at VideoCardz have analysed and compared the Polaris die shot against older AMD GPU dies – to which no similarities were found. Knowing this, it seems very likely that Polaris is (gladly) coming soon.

Interestingly, AMD’s Polaris microsite reveals a number of features that consumers can expect to see with the GPUs. Namely better cooling efficiency, 4th generation Graphics Core Next, HDR Ready, VR capable, as well as the recently announced XConnect compatibility. There are rumours floating around saying that AMD will be using its upcoming Polaris 11 GPUs for mid-range notebooks and Polaris 10 GPUs for mainstream, high-performance usage.

With plenty of release date rumours coming from both red and green camps, it’s only a matter of time before an official announcement comes out. When that happens, the only question that will remain is performance. Will AMD’s Polaris live up to the hype? Or will Nvidia remain superior once more with Pascal? We’ll just have to wait and see.
