The successor to the Xiaomi Mi Band and Mi Band Pulse has been teased more than a few times now, but it seems we finally have a release date. According to the CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, the Mi Band 2 will be officially launched on the 7th of June.
Previously, the Mi Band 2 was rumoured to be introduced alongside the Xiaomi Mi Max and MIUI 8 a couple of weeks back; needless to say, that didn’t happen. Turns out, the launch of the wearable has been delayed due to production issues, but rest assured, the 7 June release date seems to be a very concrete one.
Although the actual specifications of the Mi Band 2 have not been detailed much, numerous leaked images of the wearable have revealed several key features. For one, the Mi Band 2 will definitely sport a display of some kind now; it should also be packing a heart rate sensor and the usual smart features the Mi Band already has, such as step tracking and sleep quality monitoring.
It’s surprising how the Mi Band lineup alone managed to secure Xiaomi as the second largest wearable company in the world in the first quarter of 2016. It will be interesting to see how much the Mi Band 2 will impact the wearable market once it is released.
