HP’s New All-In-One Pavilion PC Has Super Thin Bezels and A Smart Pop-Up Webcam

HP has unveiled a new all-in-one PC as part of its new Pavilion lineup, and it is sports some pretty cool features; a super thin bezel at 6.4 mm, a sleek looking design and a hidden pop-up webcam.

Hardware wise, the new Pavilion AIO PCs offers a range of sixth generation Intel and seventh generation AMD processors. For starters, buyers can have up to a Skylake Core i7 processor with the option for an Nvidia GT 930A graphics card. The AMD processors are not paired with any options for GPUs, but go up to the AMD A10 chip. HP’s AIO ships with a 1TB HDD, which can be upgraded to 3TB of storage or a 1TB hybrid drive.

The hardware specifications are rounded out by up to 16GB of RAM. Connectivity is also well equipped with a USB Type-C, USB 3.0, USB 2.0. HDMI out, LAN and the 3-in-1 media card reader.

HP’s Pavillion AIO PC lineup is available in two sizes: the 23.8-inch display and 27-inch display. The micro edge display, which reduces bezel width by 75%, is only available on the 23.8-inch version. The narrow bezels do not leave much room for a webcam, and HP’s solution for this was to put the webcam inside the PC’s enclosure.

HP calls it the “privacy camera”. When pressed, the camera neatly pops up from the top of the display using a spring; depress it and it will hide inside the PC’s enclosure and disable the webcam. The sleek AIO PC only comes in one variant: Full HD display and non-touch screen.

The regular displays, on the other hand, are available in either QHD and Full HD, with the option to switch to a touch interface. What they won’t be getting is the privacy camera, as it looks like HP has made it exclusive for the micro edge display. Instead, the regular display styles will be getting the standard HP webcam with an optional upgrade to Intel’s RealSense Camera. The 3D camera allows the use of Windows Hello, providing enhanced security through biometric authentication.

Pricing starts at $699.99 (about RM 2790) for the 23.8-inch model and $999.99 (about RM 3990) for the 27-inch model, available starting early June. Nothing was said about the price of the micro edge display. Availability in Malaysia was not mentioned either, but it should not be long before it hits our shores.

HP has also updated its Pavilion family with a series of new products. This includes the HP Pavilion x360 convertible touchscreen laptop, the Pavilion notebook and the HP Pavilion Desktop tower; in addition to the Pavilion All-in-One.

The series is now available with up to 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD; options for HDD storage are also available up to 1TB. For a convertible, it doesn’t skimp on the processing power; it is upgradeable up to an Intel Skylake Core i7 processor.

The regular Pavilion line now includes the 14- and 15.6-inch models, and loses some weight and thickness. They are configurable with up to a sixth generation Intel Core i7 or AMD A12-9700P processor. The small tower starts with an Intel Celeron processor, and is upgradable up to Intel Core i7 processor. There is also the option for a seventh generation AMD A12 processor. Graphics options are supplied by an optional Nvidia GT 730 or GTX 750i; or an AMD R7 graphics card.

It also supports up to 16GB of RAM and 3TB storage; and ships with an optical disk drive. On top of that, it can support up to two displays and HP claims that it has most of the ports for peripherals that customers may need. What these may be is unknown.

The HP Pavilion x360 will retail starting at $379.99 (About RM 1520) for the base model; HP Pavilion notebook starts at $579.99 (About RM 2330) while the the HP Pavilion Desktop will be offered with a starting price of $449.99 (About RM 1800).
