Xiaomi Officially Announces The Mi Band 2, Features An OLED Display

Xiaomi has finally announced the arrival of the much anticipated Mi Band 2. The existence of the device was first revealed by Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, when he casually teased the device during a presentation.

Being a fitness band, the Mi Band 2 has all the features the Mi Band 1 and Mi Band Pulse has. It can count your steps, monitor your sleep, measure your heart rate and more. The Mi Band 2 is also IP67 water resistant and it still utilises a hypoallergenic silicone band.

What’s new with the Mi Band 2 is that it now has an OLED display that shows you the time and fitness data that has been recorded throughout the day. Users can cycle through the information shown using the anodised 0.05mm button found below the display.

Now accommodating a display, Xiaomi had to sacrifice battery life. The Mi Band 2 is only capable of providing 20 days of battery life instead of the 30-day battery life found on the Mi Band and Mi Band Pulse.

Besides that, the Mi Band 2 is also packed with an advanced ADI accelerometer for better tracking. Working in tandem with the optical heart rate sensor, the Mi Band 2 will also be able to send you nudges, prompting you to move around if you’ve been staying dormant for too long.

Xiaomi also upgraded the pedometer algorithm in the Mi Band 2 to avoid miscalculation of steps. Apart from that, Xiaomi also included a 2nd generation Bluetooth chip for better synchronisation between the band and your device.

Currently, no availability information of the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 has been made known, but the fitness tracker will cost Chinese yuan of 149 (roughly RM94). Now that the Mi Band 2 is official, will you be upgrading?
