Sony discounts a number of the PlayStation 2 games available on PlayStation 4 – some up to 50% off – but the deal is exclusive to PlayStation Plus subscribers.
Perhaps as a countermeasure to Xbox One backward compatibility, Sony has been building up a library of PS2 games playable on PS4. Those that have been curious about testing the upscaled graphics and added trophy support for these PS2 games on PS4 now have a little more incentive to do so, as Sony is currently discounting some of the games on the PlayStation Store – but the discounts are only available to PlayStation Plus subscribers.
The games discounted include titles like all three core PS2 Grand Theft Auto games, Dark Cloud, some Star Wars PS2 games, and more. All the games included in the sale are available for less than $10, and some are even currently available for as low as $5.
Here’s a full list of the games available in the discount, and their discounted price points:
Arc the Lad: Twilight of Spirits – $7.49
Bully – $9
Dark Cloud – $7.49
Dark Cloud 2 – $7.49
Fantavision – $5
Grand Theft Auto III – $9
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – $9
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – $9
Grand Theft Auto Trilogy – $17.49
Manhunt – $9
Max Payne – $9
Okage: Shadow King – $7
PaRappa the Rapper 2 – $5
Rogue Galaxy – $7.49
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter – $5
Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter – $5
Star Wars: Racer Revenge – $5
Twisted Metal: Black – $5
War of the Monsters – $5
This deal should be especially enticing for those that missed out on these games back in the PS2’s heyday. Some of these titles even made our list of 10 PS2 Games Everyone Should Play, like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, so if someone is looking for a classic game to play on their PlayStation 4, then they may want to take advantage of this sale.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if E3 will bring with it its own series of discounts. Sometimes Sony, Microsoft, and other companies mark the occasion with big sales on their digital marketplaces, so there’s a chance that these discounted PS2 games will be available at an even lower price later in the month for those that are patient.
It will also be interesting to see what other PS2 games make their way to the PlayStation 4 down the road. So far, Sony has been consistent in adding titles to the service on a regular basis, with Primalreleasing on PS4 earlier today. While the PlayStation VR headset will probably take up a decent chunk of Sony’s time at E3, perhaps the company will still take some time to announce even more PS2 games that will be added to the service in the coming months.
