Electronic Arts has indirectly dropped the planned release date for Titanfall 2, it looks like the company has no problem launching two massive AAA games in the same quarter. The information appeared in EA’s Q4 2016 results, which also revealed that the long awaited Mass Effect: Andromeda has been pushed back to later in the year.
Titanfall 2 is slated for a Q3 2016 release, which incidentally is the same time frame for the next installment in the Battlefield franchise. We already know that Battlefield 1 – as it will be known – has a planned launch on 21 October; and it is likely that Titanfall 2 will be shifted to an earlier date.
Little is known about the next installment of the mecha-included first person shooter beyond a short teaser trailer. That being said, fans of the series are expecting more of the same high-octane shooting action with the occasional giant mecha to break up the routine.
Titanfall was reasonably popular at launch, although the number of players quickly dropped off. It is likely that EA is expecting this to happen again; which is why it is comfortable with allowing to massive franchises to share the same release window.
If that happens to be the case, things are not looking up for Titanfall 2. Unless it turns out to be the best shooter ever made; and ends up hurting Battlefield 1 sales instead.
