HTC Vive Teardown Reveals It’s Easy to Repair

New gadgets will almost certainly get torn apart after they have been released, and the same goes for the new HTC Vive. Unlike other gadgets these days, however, the Vive is relatively easy to repair; for something that is so costly, this is very good news.

Naturally, this HTC Vive teardown is done by the iFixit staff; the site’s teardowns are usually very detailed and insightful. In the beginning of the Vive teardown, iFixit noted that it is very easy to get into the VR headset; users only really need standard screwdrivers, and the parts – albeit complex – are readily removable without damaging them.

Although most of the HTC Vive’s parts are easily accessible, it’s not exactly a walk in the park to take apart. iFixit mentioned that due to the delicate parts of the Vive, you wouldn’t want to disassemble it without some service manual. Some adhesives were also used to keep the Vive’s lenses and sensor arrays in place, which may have affected its repairability score of 8 out of 10; 10 being the easiest to repair.

Now that it’s been established that the HTC Vive is relatively easy to repair, all that’s left is for it to be launched in Malaysia. That is, if it will ever be available here officially. More information on this teardown by iFixit can be found here.
