Acer Partners With Starbreeze To Produce StarVR Headset

Acer and Starbreeze AB have signed an agreement for the intention to set up a joint venture to produce the StarVR headset. The StarVR isn’t exactly new; as Starbreeze had previewed it as E3 2015. However, it looks like plans to get the device into production have taken longer than expected.

Acer, on the other hand, says that it’s new lineup of PCs and laptops are more than capable of handling the new requirements of the VR headset. That being said, the agreement signed was only for the two companies to begin talks about setting up a joint venture – not that Acer would actually begin building the device.

Starbreeze isn’t a hardware maker by trade. Instead, the Swedish developer is better known for making games like the PayDay series. The company acquired French manufacturer Infinity Eye for its virtual reality technology; which is where the StarVR comes from.

StarVR aims to compete with its better known counterparts by offering higher resolution displays and a wider field of view. The twin QHD panels allow for a 210-degree FOV with an impressive combined resolution of 5120 x 1440. Whether there is hardware capable of sustaining this is another story.
