FirePro W9100 Workstation Graphics Card; Features 32GB GDDR5 VRAM

AMD has announced an updated version of the FirePro W9100 graphics card. The workstation graphics card now features a whopping 32GB of GDDR5 VRAM; double the amount on the original card that was released in 2014. According to AMD, this is also the world’s first workstation (not server) graphics card to feature 32GB VRAM.

Based on AMD’s two-year-old Hawaii XT GPU, the FirePro W9100 graphics card comes with 5.24 TFLOPS of FP32 performance (single-precision floating point); and 2.62 TFLOPS of FP64 performance (double-precision floating point). According to AMD, the FirePro W9100 will be compatible with the recently introduced AMD FireRender Autodesk 3ds Max plugin; a plugin that’ll enable developers to further enhance their VR content through photo-realistic rendering functionalities and etc.

When compared against Nvidia’s recently updated 24GB Quadro M6000, AMD’s FirePro W9100 fares better when it comes to memory bandwidth speeds (320GBps). When it comes to pricing however, AMD’s latest FirePro W9100 graphics card will be slightly more expensive compared to its predecessor. Sources are estimating the price of the updated FirePro W9100 to be somewhere in the region of US$4,999 (about RM19,660), which is similar to that of Nvidia’s Quadro M6000.

Knowing the price, one could clearly establish the fact that the FirePro W9100 isn’t meant for gamers and average users.
