Rumour: Gaming Notebook With GeForce GTX 1080M Spotted

Rumours have now surfaced regarding a company that have managed to list a gaming laptop that is equipped with Nvidia’s unannounced GTX 1080M GPU, contrary to previous rumours about Nvidia ending the “M” nomenclature for its upcoming high-end Pascal-based notebook GPUs. The company in question is a notebook manufacturer from Sweden called IVY.

According to the IVY, its upcoming gaming laptop will come with an “Nvidia GeForce 1080M GTX” GPU. An interesting point to note about this mobile Pascal-based GPU is the fact that unlike its desktop counterpart, the GTX 1080M will only come with the GDDR5 memory standard instead; which means that there will definitely be a reduction in performance – but the memory capacity will remain at 8GB.

If this rumour turns out to be true, this could mean that Nvidia isn’t planning to release a full GP104-based GPU for the notebook market. However, it’s worth mentioning that the pre-order webpage for the “IVY Gaming Laptop 17P” has been taken down, which could either indicate an informational error by the company – or maybe even “accidentally” breaching NDA agreements perhaps?

The slated release date for the IVY Gaming Laptop 17P along with the Pascal-based GPU inside it will be on the 29th of July; which could mean that Nvidia is looking to announce the mobile variant of Pascal GPUs during that timeframe as well. Until then, take this one with a grain of salt folks.
